The Origins of MayoGuatemala Foundation

MayoGuatemala Foundation's inception stems from a deep-seated wish, kindled by the tragic loss of our beloved four-year-old nephew, Francisco José, in 1985, and in 2021 his thirty-four-year brother and his wife . Over the years, we have faced the pain of losing other dear family members, and each loss has reinforced the fragility of life and the importance of uniting in love during these times of pain and grief.

Our ancestors have left profound traces on us, teaching us that charity begins at home and that we never leave our neighbors behind; instead, we extend a helping hand. Since we were fortunate and blessed to be born into such a strong family with a robust support network, we believe it is our duty to help our fellow brothers and sisters who were born into less fortunate circumstances, by no fault of their own. With faith and a desire to channel our grief into a symphony of goodwill, we believe that we are capable of empowering people to rise above the circumstances they were born into and opening a door of hope.

Our work started since 2022 before being officially a legal entity. The needs and our hearts were there; the family and friends were there ready to start making dreams a reality. Sadly, it was not possible to get the legal status as foundation in Guatemala, but many projects were still completed, and that was the motivation not to give up. In October of 2023 the opportunity to start in USA was open and after overcoming some challenges MayoGuatemala Foundation Co. was born.

Instead of letting our pain destroy us, we as a family resolved to transform our tears into rivers of living water. So, the idea of MayoGuatemala Foundation was born, in memory of all our loved ones who have departed before us—including the recent loss of the young José Alejandro and his wife Andrea on May 1, 2021—and the exemplary legacy they left behind for us. May our humble endeavors bring glory to God and unite us as instruments of our Creator.

Our mission is to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we embrace our less fortunate brothers and sisters with love and charity.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

— Matthew 25:40

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

— Luke 10:27
